Revista Teorema"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> 10 de julio de 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TEOREMA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Journal of Philosophy<\/strong><br>Teorema\u00a0invites submissions for a special issue on philosophy of  medicine. In recent years, the philosophy of medicine has gained an  increasingly visible position. More and more philosophers and medical  professionals are interested in the metaphysical and epistemological  aspects of the theory, research and practice of medicine. Thus,  philosophical studies on the concepts, methods, and implications of  medicine are giving rise to influential theoretical proposals supported  by transdisciplinary approaches that aim to be relevant to medical  practice. \u00a0 The following is a\u00a0non-exhaustive\u00a0list of suggested topics for contributions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The scientific status of medicine:<\/strong>&nbsp;Is medicine \n\u00abapplied biology\u00bb? Is medicine a science or an art? How can medicine be \nclearly distinguished from pseudomedicine and other pernicious \ndiscourses?<\/li><li><strong>The definition of health and disease:<\/strong>&nbsp;Is it \nnecessary to define these concepts? Is it possible -or desirable- to \nachieve a universal definition of health and disease? What is the \ncurrent state of the debate between naturalists and normativists?<\/li><li><strong>The role of values in medical philosophy:<\/strong>&nbsp;How does the social context affect medical theory and practice? How are medical values grounded in contemporary moral theories?<\/li><li><strong>Classification in medicine<\/strong>: What are the problems \nand shortcomings of medical classification systems (ICD, DSM, etc.)? Are\n diseases natural kinds or social constructs?<\/li><li><strong>Causality in medicine:<\/strong>&nbsp;What is the most adequate \ncausal model to understand medicine? What are the philosophical \nchallenges of the Evidence Based Medicine?<\/li><li><strong>Mental illness:<\/strong>&nbsp;Do mental diseases really exist? \nAre the criticisms of the Anti-psychiatry movement still valid? How does\n the categorization of mental disease affect classical questions of \nphilosophy of mind, such as the mind-body problem?<\/li><li><strong>Public health and new global challenges<\/strong>. What is \nthe most appropriate theoretical framework for addressing public health \nproblems? Are new global health challenges, such as the health alarm \ncaused by COVID-19, changing the philosophy of medicine? Is the \nphilosophy of medicine a useful tool for addressing these challenges?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n&nbsp;\nArticles must be written in English or Spanish and should not exceed \n6,000 words. For the presentation of their articles, authors are \nrequested to take into account the instructions available \nat:http:\/\/www.unioviedo.es\/Teorema\/English\/Authors.html&gt;. Submissions\n must be suitable for blind review.
